Four-time Grammy winner Carole King celebrates her 76th birthday February 9. In her honor, the cast of Broadway’s Beautiful: The Carole King Musical performed on The Today Show as part of the Citi Concert Series.
Before singing, star Chilina Kennedy spoke of taking on the role of King. “She’s been wonderfully gracious, so kind to all of us,” she said. “There’s a certain amount of pressure because people know her voice and her style, so I just try to let it move through me.”
Kennedy sang the titular song as well as “One Fine Day.” Watch the video below.
Beautiful opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre January 12, 2014, and (as of February 4, 2018) has played 1,696 performances.
