Australian musical comedy actress Chelsea Plumley makes her New York City debut in her one-woman cabaret show, Chelsea Plumley: Angel in Training, at Don't Tell Mama Nov. 2-11. The actress-singer, fresh from playing Rizzo in an Australian company of Grease, sings new and classic songs, accompanied by music director and Australian songwriter David Young. Expect songs by Rodgers and Hart, Young, Leo Sayer, Kander and Ebb and Peter Allen, among others.
Since graduating from WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) in 1994 with a degree in musical theatre, the twentysomething Plumley have been working on stages throughout her native Australia and abroad. She performed a tour of her one-woman show, Chelsea Plumley in Concert, with performances at The Playhouse Theatre in Perth, The Studio Theatre, Sydney Opera House and The Ensemble Theatre. She also toured in Tim Rice's Concert Spectacular, and appeared in Terrence McNally's Master Class and Kander and Ebb's And The World Goes Round. Plumley has also booked, produced, hosted, accompanied and performed at a cabaret-jazz venue in Sydney called Side on Café.
Tickets are $15, with a two-drink minimum. The show plays 9 PM Fridays, 8 PM Saturdays and 6 PM Sundays. Don't Tell Mama, the theatre-district cabaret spot, is at 343 W. 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues. Reservations are suggested. Call (212) 757-0788.
