The three Chicago's Second City alums collaborate on this theatrical adaptation of their book — subtitled "The Can-Do Town That Just May Not" — which tells the tale of the title town on the brink of extinction. Situated directly in front of a massive dam which will be torn down to allow a salmon run, the American smalltown's only hope is a journalist.
The Wigfield tour previously played a sold-out engagement at New York City's Jane Street Theatre in May. WestBeth Entertainment, a theatrical producing organization which has presented Sandra Bernhard's I’m Still Here, Damn It! and Eddie Izzard's Dress to Kill, produces the tour.
Sedaris' New York theatre credits include Wonder of the World, The Country Club, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told and various Talent Family Plays (written with brother David Sedaris), as well as The Book of Liz. With Colbert (a "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" correspondent) and Dinello, Sedaris has created "Exit 57" and "Strangers with Candy" for Comedy Central. The actress also has made appearances on TV's "Just Shoot Me" and "Sex and the City."
The book "Wigfield" was released by Hyperion Books, May 7. Told through interviews with its the town's colorful residents, the satire is also accompanied by pictures of the authors in character taken by photographer Todd Oldham. The audio book edition will feature readings by the authors.
Tickets to the Wigfield at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, 121 Christopher St., can be purchased by calling (212) 239-6200. For more information on Wigfield, visit their website at www.wigfield.com.
