Glenn Weiss, the director of “The 59th Annual Tony Awards,” was nominated in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Musical Variety category. His competitors in that field include Matthew Diamond (“Great Performances: Dance in America Swan Lake with American Ballet Theater”), Jerry Foley (“Late Show with David Letterman,” show #2452), Louis J. Horvitz (“The 77th Annual Academy Awards”), Alan Skog (“Live from Lincoln Center: Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit”) and Chuck O’Neil (“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”).
The associate directors for the Tony program were Gregg Gelfand, Robin Mishkin and Rick Kirshner. The awards show was also recently nominated for a Writer’s Guild Award in the Comedy/Variety – Music, Awards, Tributes, Specials category.
Director Weiss was previously nominated for a Directors Guild Award in 2001 and 2002 for, respectively, the 55th and 56th Annual Tony Awards.
The five other Director Guild television categories include Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series Night, Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series, Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs, Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials and Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children's Programs.
