Regional News World Premiere of Mean Girls Musical Officially Opens November 19 The stage adaptation of the 2003 comedy plays an out-of-town engagement in Washington, D.C. before a spring Broadway bow.

The Mean Girls musical celebrates the official opening of its world premiere engagement at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C., November 19. The stage adaptation features a book by Tina Fey (screenwriter of the 2003 comedy), music by her husband Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. Preview performances began October 31.

Following the D.C. engagement, the Casey Nicholaw-helmed musical will play Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre; performances begin March 12, 2018 prior to an April 8 official opening.

TINA FEY AND CAST SERVE UP CHEESE FRIED ON BROADWAY FOR MEAN GIRLS DAY

Leading the National Theatre cast is Erika Henningsen (Les Misérables) as high school fresh face Cady Heron (played on screen by Lindsay Lohan). Bringing the Plastics, the vicious clique Heron infiltrates, are Taylor Louderman (Kinky Boots) as queen bee Regina George, Ashley Park (Sunday in the Park with George) as Gretchen Wieners, and Kate Rockwell (Rock of Ages) as Karen Smith.

The company also includes Tony nominee Kerry Butler as Ms. Norbury, Grey Henson as Damian, Cheech Manohar as Kevin Gnapoor, Kyle Selig as Aaron Samuels, Barrett Wilbert Weed as Janis Sarkisian, and Rick Younger as Mr. Duvall.

Rounding out the ensemble are Stephanie Lynn Bissonnette, Tee Boyich, Collins Conley, Ben Cook, DeMarius Copes, Kevin Csolak, Devon Hadsell, Curtis Edwin Holland, Myles McHale, Chris Medlin, Brittany Nicholas, Becca Petersen, Nikhil Saboo, Jonalyn Saxer, Brendon Stimson, Kamille Upshaw, Zurin Villanueva, Gianna Yanelli, and Iain Young.

Mean Girls features set design by Scott Pask, costumes by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Brian Ronan, video design by Finn Ross and Adam Young, hair design by Josh Marquette, and make-up design by Milagros Medina-Cerdeira. The creative team also includes orchestrator John Clancy, music director Mary-Mitchell Campbell, and music coordinator Howard Joines. Glen Kelly provides additional music arrangements. Casting is by Telsey + Company/Bethany Knox, CSA.

Mean Girls is currently scheduled to run through December 3 in D.C.
