Three-time Tony Award nominee Andy Karl made his late-night guest debut May 11 as he paid Stephen Colbert a visit on CBS’ The Late Show. While talking to the host, Karl revealed a shocking—and improbable—family lineage: the potential love child of Hugh Jackman and Anderson Cooper.
Karl, who earned his third Tony nomination earlier this month for his leading performance in the musical Groundhog Day, shared that he ran into Jackman at the Met Gala on May 1, and the Oscar nominee and Tony winner relayed a message from a friend. “He gave me this weird compliment that a friend of his told him: that I look like a combination of him and Anderson Cooper if they had a love child. And I was like, ‘I will take that compliment!’”
After discussing his two hypothetical dads, Karl recalled his infamous onstage injury in the new musical, in which he tore his ACL three days before the official opening night. “It was one of the best theatre experiences I’ve ever had in my life—and the worst,” he said as he discussed powering through the final 15 minutes of the show shortly after injuring himself.
