After regional productions, Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake officially opened at Manhattan Theatre Club March 5, directed by MTC's artistic director Lynne Meadow and starring Debra Jo Rupp.
In it, a North Carolina baker (Rupp) is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs when her late best friend’s daughter asks her to make a cake for her lesbian wedding. Rupp is joined Off-Broadway by Marinda Anderson (Teenage Dick, Far From Heaven), Genevieve Angelson (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, The Upside), and Dan Daily (The Rivals, Seabiscuit).
