Michael Bennett, the director-choreographer who conceived A Chorus Line, won two Tony Awards for the landmark 1976 musical (Best Direction and Best Choreography). That production, along with shows including Promises, Promises, Follies, Company, and Dreamgirls, made Bennett an inherent part of the American musical theatre canon.
Now, a new company of dancers rehearse for the upcoming City Center production of A Chorus Line to celebrate the performing arts institution’s 75th anniversary. So, what would the company of this A Chorus Line ask Michael Bennett if they could? Watch the video above to hear from stars Tony Yazbeck, Tara Kostmayer, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Leigh Zimmerman, Robyn Hurder, Eddie Gutierrez, J. Elaine Marcos, director Bob Avian, and artistic director Jack Viertel.
New York City Center's presentation, directed by original co-choreographer Avian and choreographed by original cast member Baayork Lee, will kick off with a November 14 gala performance honoring City Center board member Stacy Bash-Polley. Additional performances will run November 15–18.
