In celebration of Mother’s Day this weekend, Dear Evan Hansen’s Jennifer Laura Thompson and Tony nominee Rachel Bay Jones asked a number of Broadway actors to join them in the Blue Room backstage at the Music Box Theatre and chat all things motherhood. Both Thompson and Jones are mothers offstage and onstage in the show.
The pair was joined by Annaleigh Ashford, who spoke of bringing her newborn baby onstage during a rehearsal for Sunday in the Park with George, Kelli O’Hara, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Caissie Levy, Charlotte D’Amboise, LaChanze, and Megan Lawrence.
The actors discussed being a working mom on Broadway and the challenges of juggling eight shows a week while raising children. They also opened up about their own mothers, and took a quick Rorchach Test—in which you respond to an image with the first word that comes to your head.
