Among the dozen new songs penned for the stage by the Oscar-winning team of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez is “Monster,” an Act Two anthem for Elsa (played onstage by Caissie Levy). Watch the song's music video above.

“With the musical, people are going to see a lot more of the intricacies of what Elsa is dealing with,” Levy tells Playbill. “On film, we get a close-up, but we don't have songs in certain parts. Kristen and Bobby have musicalized really key moments for Elsa that allow the audience to understand why she does what she does a little bit more.”

The number “Monster” comes in the second act as an isolated, spurned, and now hunted Elsa contemplates her value to society and relationship with her sister. It’s “some really dark territory for Disney to explore,” Levy admits, “but something I think the show needed and a color of Elsa I think people need to see.”

The song is one of four new tracks to be released throughout the show's preview period; each will be made available to stream on consecutive Fridays beginning February 23. Joining “Monster” as upcoming released numbers are “Dangerous to Dream” (another Elsa solo), “True Love” (a second act solo for Anna), and “What Do You Know About Love” (a duet between Anna and Kristoff).

While audiences will come in knowing such tunes as “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” and the Oscar-winning “Let It Go” (now the musical’s Act One finale), Levy hopes the Lopezes’ new work will shine just as much: “They’re going to hear ‘Monster,’ and they’re going to be like, ‘Wait a minute. What’s up with that song?’ I think it’s going to give ‘Let It Go’ a run for its money.”

Frozen will celebrate its official opening at the St. James Theatre March 22.
