The Broadway premiere of Anastasia, the new musical inspired by the 1997 animated film, begins previews March 23 at the Broadhurst Theatre with an official opening April 24.
The stage production features a score by Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and an all-new book by Tony winner Terrence McNally.
Ahrens and Flaherty have written 19 new songs for the Broadway production, which retains standouts from the film, including “Journey to the Past,” and “Once Upon a December.”
Anastasia stars Christy Altomare as Anya, Derek Klena as Dmitry, John Bolton as Vlad, Caroline O’Connor as Lily, Ramin Karimloo as Gleb, and Mary Beth Peil as Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna.
The cast met the press February 22 to perform several new songs written for Anastasia’s Broadway premiere. They were accompanied by Anastasia composer Flaherty on piano. In the video above, Altomare sings a new song for Anya, titled “In My Dreams.”
