The cast is now set for the world premiere of Greg Pierce’s Cardinal, which will begin performances January 9, 2018, at Off-Broadway’s Tony Kiser Theater.
The company for the Second Stage Theater production includes Veep Emmy nominee Anna Chlumsky, Happy Endings star Adam Pally, and Girls Emmy nominee Becky Ann Baker.
The Kate Whoriskey-helmed staging will officially open January 30. Completing the cast are Alex Hurt (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Stephen Park (Aubergine), and Eugene Young (Alice in Slasherland).
The play follows Lydia (Chlumsky), who sets out to invigorate her Rust Belt town. A rivalry ensues when an entrepreneur enters the picture to co-opt her plan.
Chlumsky made her Broadway debut in You Can't Take It With You before returning to the New York stage in Living on Love. She earned her fifth Emmy nomination earlier this year for her performance as Amy Brookheimer on HBO's Veep.
Pally makes his New York stage debut with Cardinal. He is known for his screen appearances on the cult favorite Happy Endings and The Mindy Project.
Baker, an Emmy nominee for her performance as Hannah Horvath's mom Loreen on Girls, has appeared on the New York stage in productions of Good People, All My Sons, Assassins, Titanic, The Hairy Ape, and Peer Gynt.
The production will feature sets by Derek McLane, costumes by Jennifer Moeller, lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker, and sound design by Leah Gelpe.
