The world premiere of Ultimate Beauty Bible, which follows the lives of three women living in the city and working at a popular magazine, officially opens November 3. The dark comedy by 2016 Tow Foundation playwright-in-residence Caroline V. McGraw is playing the New Ohio Theatre Off-Broadway.
Ultimate Beauty Bible, which began performances October 25 with direction by Stephen Brackett (Buyer & Cellar), is presented by Page Seventy-Three Productions. The new play explores questions of romance, sex, ambition, and loyalty in our contemporary age.
The cast is made up of Eboni Booth (Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again.), Alex Breaux (Red Speedo), Molly Griggs (Steubenville), Nadine Malouf (The Who and the What), Sathya Sridharan (This Is How It Ends), and Ariel Woodiwiss (The Convent of Pleasure).
Here is how Page 73 bills McGraw’s play: “Danielle, Lee, and Tiffany have scaled the masthead of Crimp magazine, gaining access to the best the city has to offer—nightlife, men, and the beautiful baubles showcased in every issue. But when workaholic Danielle is forced to face her mortality, she begins to wonder what it's all worth. In this dark comedy, questions of romance, sex, ambition, and loyalty spin Danielle and her friends out of control as they consider the possibility of life without each other.“
Ultimate Beauty Bible features scenic design by Daniel Zimmerman (Kill Floor), costume design by Sarah Laux (An Act of God), lighting design by Masha Tsimring (The Place We Built), sound design by M.L. Dogg (Aubergine), and props by Justin Cox (Young Charles Dickens). Megan Schwarz Dickert serves as production stage manager with Alberto Ruiz serving as production manager.
The New Ohio Theatre is located at 154 Christopher Street, New York. Tickets range from $15 to $40 and can be purchased at Page73.org or by calling (866) 811-4111.
