The musical adaptation of Tootsie will make its world premiere in Chicago later this year. Performances will run September 11–October 14 at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre; a Broadway transfer will follow in spring 2019.
Tony nominee Santino Fontana (Cinderella, Frozen, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) will star as Michael Dorsey, a struggling actor who lands a job under the female persona "Dorothy Michaels" (played on screen by Dustin Hoffman). Fontana led previous industry presentations of the musical.
David Yazbek, currently represented on Broadway with The Band’s Visit, will pen the score, while Robert Horn is attached as book writer. Horn is no stranger writing for the female impersonator, having contributed to Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance. Scott Ellis will direct.
The production will feature choreography by Denis Jones, musical direction by Andrea Grody, sets by David Rockwell, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Donald Holder, and sound design by Brian Ronan.
Additional casting and Broadway dates will be announced later.
