Yazbeck will succeed Alfie Boe as the writer whose relationship with a widow and her four sons inspired him to write Peter Pan. Tony nominee Matthew Morrison created the role on Broadway.
In related news Paul Slade Smith has assumed the roles of Charles Frohman/Capt. Hook—originated by Kelsey Grammer and recently played by Marc Kudisch—and Dana Costello is now playing the part of Mary Barrie.
Directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus, the musical began previews March 15, 2015, and officially opened April 15 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The final performance is scheduled for August 21.
Yazbeck earned a Tony Award nomination for playing Gabey in the Broadway revival of On the Town. His performance also earned him the Fred and Adele Astaire Award for best male dancer on Broadway.
Yazbeck will also be among the talent performing on Broadway on the High Seas 8, which will also feature Tony nominees Melissa Errico and Judy Kuhn and Drama Desk nominee Karen Mason.
