Liesl Tommy, who received a Tony nomination for her work on the 2016 Broadway play Eclipsed, will direct an upcoming episode of Oprah Winfrey and Ava Duvernay’s OWN TV series Queen Sugar.
The show, which was also recently renewed for a third season, follows estranged siblings, a married couple, and a formerly incarcerated young father in search of redemption in Louisiana. The show airs Wednesdays at 7 PM. Tommy's episode will air on a fall date to be announced.
With Danai Gurira’s Eclipsed, Tommy made history as the first woman of color to be nominated for a Tony for Best Director of a Play. Her additional credits include Kid Victory, Appropriate, and The Good Negro Off-Broadway, Frozen at the Hyperion Theater in Disneyland, and the upcoming MCC world premiere of Relevance.
