Sondra Gilman and Celso Gonzalez-Falla will present the Foundation Award to the winners at a Dec. 8 ceremony at 5:30 PM at the Foundation’s headquarters in New York. Both recipients will receive a $25,000 prize and support for future projects.
Sklar and Beguelin collaborated on The Rhythm Club which played Washington D.C.'s Signature Theater earlier this year. They have also worked together on Wicked City (American Stage Company) and are currently working on musical versions of the films "The Wedding Singer" and "Get Shorty." Beguelin recently penned the book for the stage version of Disney's "Aladdin".
The lauded team has also garnered the Jonathan Larson Award and the Edward Kleban Award for best lyricist.
The Gilman Gonzalez-Falla Theatre Foundation was "created to encourage, assist and promote lyricists, book writers and composers creating new works for the American Musical Theatre," a release states.
Previous winners include Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years), Michael John La Chiusa (Marie Christine), Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party) and Craig Carnelia (Is There Life After High School?). The 2003 Commendation Awards will be presented to Barry Kleinbort and Joseph Thalken, Lee Summers, and Peter Ullian.
