The North American premiere of The Lehman Trilogy opens March 27 at Park Avenue Armory. The acclaimed production, which began performances in New York City March 22, debuts in the U.S. following a sold-out premiere at London’s National in 2018.
Directed by Sam Mendes, The Lehman Trilogy is a co-production from the National Theatre and Neal Street Productions.
The Stefano Massini play, featuring an adapted, English-language script by Ben Power, follows the 163-year saga that begins with a young man in Bavaria dreaming of a new life and ends with one of the world’s largest financial crises.
Reprising their performances from the London run are Adam Godley, Ben Miles, and Simon Russell Beale, who play the three title brothers, their sons, and grandsons.
“Manhattan is the natural home for this epic play, and the Armory an iconic space for staging it, continuing a line of productions by major international directors who are thrilled to incorporate the Wade Thompson Drill Hall into their vision," says Armory Artistic Director Pierre Audi. "With The Lehman Trilogy, we are once more making this dream come true.”
Performances will continue through April 20, after which, the production will play a 12-week run in London's Piccadilly Theatre.
The staging features sets by Es Devlin, lighting by Jon Clark, costumes by Katrina Lindsay, sound design and original music by Nick Powell, video design by Luke Halls, and lighting design by Jon Clark. Candida Caldicot is the music director, and Polly Bennett is the movement director.
The world premiere of Massini’s The Lehman Trilogy opened at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan in 2015, marking director Luca Ronconi’s final production before his death.
