The Animal Monologues, the award-winning solo play by Amy Raasch that addresses “how humans contend with the wildness in their neighborhoods and inside their own skins,” is presented at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles as part of the Solo Queens Festival.
Filled with “campy, lo-fi video, soulful masks, vocal effects, and an evocative, electro-orchestral score,” The Animal Monologues runs through November 18.
Featuring a score by Nashville songwriter David Poe, The Animal Monologues voices human concerns through animal characters, incorporating “the hopeful perspective of a young descendant of the last living 9/11 Search and Rescue dog, Bretagne, who worked twelve-hour shifts at Ground Zero and became an international symbol of 9/11 heroism,” as well as Raasch’s short film Cat Bird Coyote.
