As casting directors ramp up their demand for a union contract from the Broadway League, actors are showing their support on social media through the hashtag #FairnessForCasting. Among those who have joined the campaign are the cast of War Paint, Indecent’s Katrina Lenk and Adina Verson, Hamilton’s J. Quinton Johnson, Lauren Worsham, Lilli Cooper, and TV actor Willie Garson.
As previously reported, Broadway casting directors joined Teamsters Local 817 in 2016, but the Broadway League has yet to negotiate a union contract with them. Without such a contract, casting directors are left to find health insurance on their own. Their employers also make no contributions toward their retirement.
