A new edition of the script for Fleabag, featuring never-before-seen color photos, exclusive behind-the-scenes accounts and more, will soon be available, just in time for Phoebe Waller-Bridge's hit solo play to make its West End debut. As previously reported, Fleabag—recently seen Off-Broadway—will begin performances at London's Wyndham’s Theatre August 20.
Published August 29 by Nick Hern Books, Fleabag: The Special Edition will feature the original playscript, photos, and exclusive bonus content by Waller-Bridge, director Vicky Jones, and key members of the creative team. The special edition is introduced by comedian and host of The Guilty Feminist podcast, Deborah Frances-White.
Nick Hern Books first published the script for Fleabag in 2013, immediately following the show's award-winning premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe. The play went on to have two runs at London’s Soho Theatre, as well as national and international tours (including a sold-out, Drama Desk-nominated American premiere in New York City).
Written by and starring Waller-Bridge, with direction by Vicky Jones, Fleabag is the story of an oversexed, grieving, disaster-attracting woman struggling to maintain her personal relationships and her guinea pig-themed cafe. The play was adapted into a series by BBC Television in partnership with Amazon in 2016, the second season of which just picked up 11 Emmy nominations, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actress for Waller-Bridge, and more.
Waller-Bridge is also the creator and showrunner of the BBC America thriller series Killing Eve starring Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh. The show, based on Luke Jennings’ Codename Villanelle series, kicked off its second season April 7 on BBC America.
