Performances begin March 28 at Theatre Row's Acorn Theatre for the world premiere of Sincerely, Oscar, a new musical celebrating the life, music, and legacy of famed lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. Azudi Onyejekwe (The Great Comet, Violet) stars alongside the show's creator, Doreen Taylor, who has collaborated with the Hammerstein family over a number of years on the musical tribute.
Co-starring alongside Onyejekwe and Taylor is (in a sense) Hammerstein himself. The world premiere utilizes state-of-the-art 3D holographic technology to bring a hologram of the late lyricist center stage.
Sincerely, Oscar features a book by Taylor and direction by Dugg McDonoug.
As well as showcasing over 30 of his greatest songs from shows like The Sound of Music, Show Boat, Oklahoma!, Carousel, and South Pacific, the production incorporates Hammerstein's personal correspondence, unpublished lyrics, interviews, and rare memoirs.
Sincerely, Oscar features scenic design by Jason Simms, lighting design by David Pedemonti, costume design by Dawna Oak, sound design by Robert Balan, and projection design by Brittany Merenda. Lou Lanza is the musical director and arranger, and Joshua Godoy did the string arrangements. The production is general managed by Brierpatch Productions. Additional casting is by Pat McCorkle, CSA & Katja Zarolinski, CSA, McCorkle Casting Ltd.
Opening is April 4.
