The world premiere of Terrence McNally’s Fire and Air began performances January 17 at Off-Broadway's Classic Stage Company. The ballet-focused drama explores the rich history behind Sergei Diaghilev’s preeminent company the Ballet Russes, including his tempestuous relationship with celebrated dancer Vaslav Nijinsky.
Tony-winning Artistic Director John Doyle directs a cast led by Tony winner Douglas Hodge (Cyrano de Bergerac) as Diaghilev and James Cusati-Moyer (Six Degrees of Separation) as Nijinsky. The cast also includes Tony nominee Marin Mazzie (Ragtime, The King and I) as Misia, John Glover (The Cherry Orchard) as Dima, Jay Armstrong Johnson (On the Town) as Massine, and Oscar nominee Marsha Mason (The Goodbye Girl) as Dunya.
