The complete cast is set for the upcoming world premiere of The Courtroom, which will bring transcripts from actual deportation hearings to site-specific venues around New York later this month.
Among the company are Ruthie Ann Miles, who recently reprised her Tony-winning performance as Lady Thiang in The King and I in London’s West End, Tony nominee Kathleen Chalfant (Angels in America), Happy Anderson (The Merchant of Venice), Michael Braun (The Crucible), Hanna Cheek (Goodbar), Michael Bryan French (A Doll’s House, Part 2), Mick Hilgers (The Accidental Wolf), Linda Powell (The Trip to Bountiful), and Kristin Villanueva (Old Globe’s Two Gentlemen of Verona).
As previously announced, the production, from the New York-based Waterwell, will play Fordham University School of Law January 23 and 26 and the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse January 24 and 25.
Waterwell Artistic Director Lee Sunday Evans helms the performance piece, which recounts the hearings of an immigrant from the Philippines on a K3 Visa who faced deportation once she inadvertently registered to vote in Chicago after receiving a registration card. Tony nominee and Waterwell co-founder Arian Moayed arranged the script using court transcripts.
