Hand to God, which played an acclaimed, extended run at the Ensemble Studio Theatre during the 2011-12 season, is staged by original director Moritz von Stuelpnagel. Tickets are currently on sale through March 30.
Steven Boyer (Modern Terrorism), who appeared in the original production, is joined by fellow original cast member Geneva Carr (Betty's Summer Vacation), as well as new cast members Marc Kudisch (The Apple Tree, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), Michael Oberholtzer ("Delivery Man") and Sarah Stiles (Into the Woods, Avenue Q).
According to MCC Theater, "In Hand to God, the good children of Cypress, Texas are taught to obey the Bible in order to evade Satan’s hand. But when students at the Christian Puppet Ministry put those teachings into practice, one devout young man's puppet takes on a shocking personality that no one could have expected. In this hilarious and lightning-paced comedy, a foul-mouthed sock puppet named Tyrone soon teaches those around him that the urges that can drive a person to give in to their darkest desires fit like a glove."
The creative team includes Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), Jason Lyons (lighting design), Sydney Maresca (costume design) and Jill BC Du Boff (sound design).
Askins' plays include Princess of Waco, Matthew and the Pastor's Wife, Everything is Ruthless and Doll Parts.
