Red Bull Theater’s revival of the 17th-century John Webster drama The White Devil opened March 31 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Louisa Proske’s new adaptation interprets the revenge tragedy as a contemporary dystopia, using live video to mirror Webster’s world of perversion, surveillance, and violence.
The White Devil traces a love affair and the story of an extraordinary woman in a world of deceit, objectification, and fake news.
The Off-Broadway production, which began March 19, stars Tony nominee Robert Cuccioli, Daniel Oreskes, Socorro Santiago, Amara James Aja, Jenny Bacon, Lisa Birnbaum, Edward O’Blenis, Cherie Corinne Rice, Tommy Schrider, Tony nominee Derek Smith, and T. Ryder Smith.
