Performances begin January 15 at Classic Stage Company for Mies Julie, Yaël Farber's adaptation of August Strindberg's Miss Julie. Farber resets the classic play, about the relationship between a wealthy man's daughter and his employee, in South Africa during the annual Freedom Day celebrations.

Elise Kibler and James Udom star as Julie and John, respectively, in the Shariffa Ali-helmed production. Patrice Johnson Chevannes (Racing Demon, The Crucible) and Vinie Burrows (Light Shining in Buckinghamshire) complete the cast as Christine and Ukhokho, respectively.

Mies Julie runs through March 10 and will play in repertory with Strindberg’sThe Dance of Death, which begins performances January 17. Tony winner Victoria Clark directs.

The creative team for Mies Julie includes David L. Arsenault (scenic design), Ntokozo Fuzunina Kunene and Andrew Moerdyk (costume design), Stacey Derosier (lighting design), Quentin Chiappetta (sound design), and Andrew Orkin (original music).
