The Mad Ones’ acclaimed ensemble comedy Miles for Mary, which had its premiere at The Bushwick Starr last October, will be remounted Off-Broadway by Playwrights Horizons in January 2018.
The Off-Broadway production will feature the complete original cast, which includes The Mad Ones company members Marc Bovino, Joe Curnutte, Michael Dalto, and Stephanie Wright Thompson, as well as Amy Staats and Stacey Yen. Lila Neugebauer will again direct.
The bittersweet comedy, set in the teachers lounge of an Ohio high school in the late 1980’s, earned praise from critics, who were charmed by the play’s nostalgia and the comic precision of its cast. Miles for Mary is billed as “an analog elegy to the camcorder 1980s, Girls Track and Field, and the consecrated American High School.”
Previews are set to begin January 11, 2018, ahead of a January 22 opening night. The limited engagement will run through February 4 at Playwrights Horizons’ Peter Jay Sharp Theater.
The production has set design by Amy Rubin, costume design by Asta Hostetter, lighting design by Mike Inwood and sound design by Stowe Nelson. Production stage manager is John C. Moore.
Founded in 2009, The Mad Ones create detailed, character-driven theatrical experiences rooted in American nostalgia. The plays are devised through an ongoing collaboration between the company’s ensemble of writer-performers and designers. Bovino, Curnutte, Neugebauer, and Thompson serve as co-artistic directors. The Mad Ones are currently the Company-in-Residence at Ars Nova.
Miles for Mary was commissioned and developed through the support of The Bushwick Starr.
