Phantom of the Opera star Ali Ewoldt will star as Anne in Anne of Green Gables: Part I Off-Broadway. Royal Family Productions, which workshopped the adaptation in 2017, is behind the world premiere at The Royal Family Performing Arts Space beginning in January 2019.
Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s celebrated novel, the movement-fueled production is adapted and directed by Chris Henry with choreography by Lorna Ventura. Ewoldt will be joined by dancers Brooke Averi, Kiersten Foster, Mindy Lai, Kara Menendez, and Stephanie Young.
Anne of Green Gables: Part I will run January 24–February 11, 2019.
The show will feature original music by Amanda Armstrong, Lars Jacobsen, and Bart Kuebler; lighting, scenic, and costume design by Cheyenne Sykes; projection design by Chelsie McPhilimy; and sound design by Chet Miller. Jessica Wu is associate director.
Ewoldt is the first Asian actor to take on the role of Christine Daaé in Phantom on Broadway. Her earlier Broadway credits include The King and I and Les Misérables.
Royal Family Productions will present Anne of Green Gables in three parts. The company will also present a workshop presentation of Anne of Green Gables: Part II January 31–February 10.
