School Girls' Paige Gilbert and Is God Is' Alfie Fuller, along with Antoinette Crowe-Legacy (currently in If Pretty Hurts Ugly Must Be a Muhfucka) will lead the cast of the upcoming Off-Broadway premiere of BLKS by Aziza Barnes, directed by Robert O’Hara.
In BLKS, which marks Barnes' playwriting debut, Gilbert, Fuller, and Crowe-Legacy star as a trio of 20somethings hunting for intimacy and purpose in New York City. When they need each other the most, the women rally to “resurrect their fly” in a day full of humorous and painful attempts to be heard through the noise that surrounds them.
The MCC Theater production will begin performances April 20 in the Newman Mills Theater at The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space ahead of a May 9 opening. Rounding out the cast Off-Broadway will be Marié Botha, Chris Myers, and Coral Peňa.
The production will feature scenic design by Clint Ramos, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Alex Jainchill, sound design by Palmer Hefferan, and casting by Telsey + Company/Adam Caldwell, CSA, William Cantler, CSA, Karyn Casl, CSA. The production stage manager is Brett Anders.
The world premiere of BLKS was produced and presented at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. The play was developed at the Ojai Playwrights Conference.
