Paddy Considine, Laura Donnelly, and Genevieve O’Reilly will reprise their original performances as Quinn Carney, Caitlin Carney, and Mary Carney, respectively, in the Broadway transfer of Jez Butterworth’s West End hit The Ferryman. The acclaimed new play, directed by Sam Mendes, will begin previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater October 2.
Following a record-breaking, sold-out debut at London's Royal Court Theatre last spring, The Ferryman transferred to the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End, where it is scheduled to end its thrice-extended, year-long run on May 19. The production won three 2018 Olivier Awards, including Best New Play, Best Director, and Best Actress (Donnelly), along with a number of Evening Standard Awards and a UK Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play.
Next stop for The Ferryman is Broadway, with much of the London cast set to make the transfer. The New York cast will feature current London company members Dean Ashton, Charles Dale, Justin Edwards, Mark Lambert, Rob Malone, and Glenn Speers. Joining them will be original Ferryman company members Fra Fee, Tom Glynn-Carney, Stuart Graham, Carla Langley, Conor MacNeill, Dearbhla Molloy, and Niall Wright.
Glynis Bell, Gina Costigan, Fionnula Flanagan, and Colin McPhillamy will also be part of the Broadway cast, with further casting to be announced.
The Ferryman will officially open October 21. Set in Northern Ireland in the early 1980s, the play takes place during the Carney farmhouse's annual harvest celebration and feast. The festivities are halted by the arrival of an unexpected visitor.
The Ferryman is produced on Broadway by Sonia Friedman Productions & Neal Street Productions with Ronald Frankel, Roy Furman, Gavin Kalin Productions, Scott M. Delman, Stephanie P.
