Cherry Lane Theatre wraps up its 2018–2019 season with Adam Seidel's Original Sound, a new play about a young Nuyorican beat maker who calls out a rising pop star for ripping off his track.
A musical journey through the heart of an unforgiving industry, the world premiere opens May 9 after beginning performances April 30.
Elena Araoz directs a cast made up of Anthony Arkin (I'm Not Rappaport, The Americans), Cynthia Bastidas (The Mecca Tales, Docket 32357), Jane Bruce (The Other Josh Cohen, Jagged Little Pill), Sebastian Chacon (Tales of the City, Public’s Twelfth Night, Romero y Julieta), Tony winner Wilson Jermaine Heredia (La Cage aux Folles, Rent), and Lio Mehiel (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Deception).
Original Sound will feature music direction by Daniel Ocanto.
Seidel's other plays include The Devilman, Other People’s Happiness, and American Outlaws. His play Catch the Butcher was previously seen at the Cherry Lane following a world premiere at the Long Beach Playhouse in California. He is a 2017 O'Neill semi-finalist.
