Regent's Park Open Air Theatre’s Olivier-winning production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, which enjoyed two sell-out runs at the Open Air before playing the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 2018, will transfer to the Barbican Theatre for 60 performances beginning July 4, 2019.
The production, seen at the Open Air Theatre in 2016 in 2017, won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.
The production will continue at the Barbican through August 24. Casting will be announced at a later date.
With direction by Timothy Sheader, the musical has designs by Tom Scutt, choreography by Drew McOnie, musical direction by Tom Deering, lighting design by Lee Curran, and sound design by Nick Lidster for Autograph.
Jesus Christ Superstar is produced by William Village and Timothy Sheader for Regent's Park Theatre Ltd by special arrangement with The Really Useful Group Limited.
Tickets will go on sale November 16.
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s 2019 season will be announced later this month.
