The new Broadway musical Mean Girls celebrated “Mean Girls Day” on October 3 with a special ceremony hosted by New York City Commissioner of Media and Entertainment Julie Menin, re-naming West 52nd Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue “W. Fetch Street.” This was followed by Jonathan Bennett, Aaron Samuels from the film, reading a proclamation from the New York State Assembly officially declaring October 3, 2018, “Mean Girls Day” in the state of New York.
The new musical features music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and a book by Tina Fey, who makes her Broadway debut after appearing in and penning the screenplay for the 2004 comedy.
Leading the cast is Erika Henningsen (Les Misérables) as high school fresh face Cady Heron. Bringing to life the Plastics, the vicious clique Heron infiltrates, are Taylor Louderman (Kinky Boots) as queen bee Regina George, Ashley Park (Sunday in the Park with George) as Gretchen Wieners, and Kate Rockwell (Rock of Ages) as Karen Smith.
