Bridges, a new musical that explores the fight for racial equality and LGBT rights through a multiracial family over the course of four decades, will receive a one-night-only concert June 17. The presentation, from Prospect Theatre Company and Amas Musical Theatre, will take place at The Times Center.

The concert, featuring music by Douglas J. Cohen and a book and lyrics by Cheryl L. Davis, will be directed by Jeffrey Page. The cast will include Jill Abramowitz (It Shoulda Been You), DeMone (Ragtime), Tina Fabrique (Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk), Destinee Rea (Amelie), A. J. Shively (Bright Star), Charles E. Wallace (Amazing Grace), and Brynn Williams (13).

The company also will include Chadaé, A. L. Cook, Ben Gold, Zoe Himmel, Michael Holmes, Victoria Lanzillo, Zhailon Levingston, Chinua B. Payne, Brianna Reis, David Rogue, Cliff Sellers, Jason Veasey, Caleb Wnorowski, and Simone Zamore; additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Spanning from 1965 through 2008, Bridges charts the time- and space-crossing dynamic between a young woman in Selma during the Civil Rights Movement and another young woman in a more contemporary Berkeley as she fights for LGBT rights. The musical explores past and present, and what steps still need to be taken in the name of equality.

The concert is part of The Times Center's IGNITE Series, an ongoing concert initiative aimed at raising the voices of emerging artists.

Davis and Cohen recently received three San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award nominations for the world premiere of Bridges at Berkeley Playhouse. Watch a clip from the Berkeley production's sitzprobe below.
