The Netflix animated series Beat Bugs, featuring songs by The Beatles, is being adapted as a new stage musical.
The Emmy-winning series about the adventures of a group of four backyard bugs incorporates numerous songs from the iconic John Lennon-Paul McCartney catalog, including “Help!,” “All You Need Is Love,” and “Penny Lane.”
The musical will receive a workshop in 2018 ahead of its release from Broadway Licensing for performance in schools and local theatre groups.
“Creating a Beat Bugs musical using The Beatles’ catalogue is incredibly cool and tremendously exciting for our company,” said Sean Cercone, president of Broadway Licensing, in a statement. “It’s heartwarming to watch this show with my kids and experience how these iconic songs can teach such important messages while being highly entertaining.”
A timeline for the stage musical’s release has not been announced. Broadway Licensing also administers live performance rights for High Fidelity, Clue, Glory Days, Triassic Park, and Polkadots.
