Playwright and actor Ngozi Anyanwu stars in the Off-Broadway premiere of Good Grief at the Vineyard Theatre this fall.
The story of a Nigerian-American girl navigating her childhood home in Pennsylvania’s suburbs, Good Grief is a first-generation coming-of-age journey of love, loss, and growing into adulthood. As previously announced, Anyanwu stars in the leading role of Nkechi.
Performances will begin October 11 ahead of an October 30 opening night.
Awoye Timpo, who helmed The Homecoming Queen, directs a cast that also includes Oberon K.A. Adjepong (The Homecoming Queen) as Papa, NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha (Crown Heights) as Bro, Patrice Johnson Chevannes (The Homecoming Queen, The Crucible) as NeNe, Hunter Parrish (Weeds, Godspell, Spring Awakening) as JD, Ian Quinlan (The Long Road Home, Gotham, Sneaky Pete) as MJ, and Lisa Ramirez (To the Bone, Exit Cuckoo) as MJ's Mom/Neighbor.

The production will have scenic design by Jason Ardizzone-West (NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar), costume design by Andy Jean (Santa Fe Opera), lighting design by Oona Curley (The Homecoming Queen), and sound design by Daniel Kluger (Marvin's Room). David Anzuelo serves as fight director.
