Tony nominee Marin Ireland (Reasons to be Pretty) will star as Alma Winemiller alongside House of Cards actor Nathan Darrow as Dr. John Buchanan, Jr. in the upcoming Off-Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke. The co-production between Classic Stage Company and Transport Group will begin performances at CSC April 13.
Transport Group Artistic Director Jack Cummings III directs a cast completed by Glenna Brucken as Rosemary, Phillip Clark as Dr. Buchanan, Sr., Hannah Elless as Nellie Ewell, Elena Hurst as Rosa Gonzales, Tina Johnson as Mrs. Bassett, Gerardo Rodriguez as Papa Gonzales, T. Ryder Smith as Reverend Winemiller, Ryan Spahn as Archie Kramer, Jonathan Spivey as Roger Doremus, and Barbara Walsh as Mrs. Winemiller.
Set in turn-of-the-century Mississippi, Summer and Smoke tells the story of a local minister’s daughter, Alma, and her relationship with the neighborhood doctor who grew up next door. The play premiered on Broadway in 1948 and was revived again in 1996.
The Off-Broadway revival of Summer and Smoke will officially open at CSC May 3.
Set design is by Dane Laffrey with costume design by Kathryn Rohe, lighting design by R. Lee Kennedy, and sound design by Walter Trarbach. Original music is by Michael John LaChiusa. Casting is by Nora Brennan Casting.
