Tony Award-winning producer Kevin McCollum (Something Rotten!, Avenue Q, Hand to God) is presenting private industry stagings of the Olivier Award-winning musical Showstopper! The Improvised Musical this week in New York.
The production earned acclaim in London.
Each performance is unique and entirely improvised. At every performance the company creates a real musical from scratch—not just an improv night with songs, but a full story with stories and characters, a live band, and spontaneous choreography. Highlights from previous shows have included Emotional Baggage (an apt title for a tale of First Class romance at Heathrow Airport, with songs in the style of Sondheim and Abba), Sweeney Cod (in which an ambitious fish and chip shop owner falls victim to unrequited love, with a touch of Kander and Ebb alongside the pineapple fritters), and To Bleed Or Not To Bleed (a high-stakes opera of communist vampires, channeling Mel Brooks and featuring an undead chorus).
Showstopper! was created by Adam Meggido and Dylan Emery.
The cast features members of the original London company including Ruth Bratt, Justin Brett, Dylan Emery, Pippa Evans, Adam Meggido, Andrew Pugsley, Sarah-Louise Young, Duncan Walsh Atkins, Chris Ash and Alex Atty.
The New York presentations are presented in association with James Seabright and Suzanna Rosenthal.
