Performances begin May 17 for the world premiere of Liza Birkenmeier’s play the hollower at Access Theater starring Patrena Murray (Venus). Birkenmeier was a finalist for the prestigious Relentless Award and was featured on the 2016 Kilroy's List.
The limited engagement of the hollower is presented by New Light Theater Project, and is directed by Kristy Dodson. Performances are scheduled through June 9.
In the hollower, Otto (Murray) is visited by an investigative podcaster who is half-pig, half-man. She also has a teenaged occult enthusiast houseguest who is making a claymation film about seventeenth century witchcraft in her kitchen. The play is billed as a "modern haunt-comedy" about seventeenth century colonialism and the crowded nature of isolation.
The cast also features Reyna de Courcy (The Whale with Playwrights Horizons), Samuel Im (Beardo at Pipeline Theater Company), Ryan Wesley Stinnett (The Nomad at The Flea), and ToniAnne DiFilippo.
The creative team includes You-Shin Chen (scenic design), Carolyn Wong (lighting design), Max Archimedes Levitt (costume design), Andy Evan Cohen (sound design and music direction), and Leila Ben-Abdallah (prop design). The production stage manager is Lindsey Hurley. The assistant stage manager is Cafega Haynes-Rodriguez.
