An industry reading of the new musical Hansel & Gretl & Heidi & Günter, which will make its West Coast premiere at Washington's Village Theatre in 2020, will be presented May 3 at 3 PM.
Tony winner Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza) and Jerry Dixon (If/Then) co-direct a cast featuring Lisa Howard (It Shoulda Been You, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Gretl with Joel Waggoner (Be More Chill, School of Rock), Patrick John Moran (Something Rotten!), Keaton Whittaker (A Little Night Music), Matthew Berzon, Maya Jade Frank (Mary Poppins), Derrick Cobey (Kiss Me, Kate), Sarah Sun Park, John Coons, Rafael Molina, and Saxton Jay Walker.
Matt Castle will serve as music director for the musical, which features a book by Hannah Kohl, lyrics by Daniel Maté, and music by Will Aronson.
In the new musical Gretl, is now a single mom living in modern day Chicago, still suffering from the trauma of her fairytale childhood. Her exceedingly modern kids are fed up with stuffing their pockets full of pebbles, and dream of the impossible: a normal childhood. But when long-lost Uncle Hansel shows up at their doorstep, they are plunged into an unexpected adventure that brings the family together.
