A number of stage favorites will take part in the Encores! presentation of The Golden Apple, which will take place May 10–14 at New York City Center. The cast will include Lindsay Mendez, Ryan Silverman, Ashley Brown, Alli Mauzey, and Carrie Compere. Michael Berresse will direct.
Mendez, currently on Broadway in Significant Other, will play Helen, with Silverman (Side Show) as Ulysses, Brown (Mary Poppins) as Mrs. Juniper/Madame Calypso, Mauzey (Wicked) as Miss Minerva Oliver/The Scientist, and Compere (The Color Purple) as Lovely Mars/The Siren. The cast will also include Mikaela Bennett as Penelope, Jason Kravits as Menelaus/Scylla, N’Kenge as Mother Hare, and Rasta Thomas as Paris.
Rounding out the cast are Florrie Bagel, Daniel Berryman, Michael Buchanan, Brian Cali, Max Chernin, Andrew Cristi, Laura Darrell, Dionne Figgins, Hannah Florence, Tamar Greene, Jeff Heimbrock, Leah Horowitz, Monté J. Howell, Donald Jones Jr., Andrea Jones-Sojola, Naomi Kakuk, Evan Kasprzak, Reed Kelly, Bruce Landry, Quentin Oliver Lee, Brandon Leffler, Michael X. Martin, Skye Mattox, Sarah Meahl, Justin Prescott, Lindsay Roberts, Sarrah Strimel, Joseph Torello, Kathy Voytko, and Nicholas Ward.
Joshua Bergasse will choreograph the concert staging, with musical direction by Rob Berman.
The 1954 musical by Jerome Moross and John Latouche is inspired by selections of Homer’s Greek epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey. Despite receiving favorable reviews, the original production ran for only 125 performances at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon).
