Sony Pictures Animation’s Vivo, featuring songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a script by his In the Heights collaborator Quiara Alegría Hudes, will arrive in theatres a few weeks earlier than expected.
Initially fast-tracked for a December 18, 2020, release, the film will now premiere a bit sooner that year on November 6, according to Deadline.
The project was initially developed by DreamWorks shortly after the success of In the Heights. The story follows a thrill-seeking capuchin monkey with (naturally) a passion for music who travels from Havana to Miami.
Miranda, who won his third Grammy Award over the weekend for Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go,” will star in Disney’s upcoming Mary Poppins Returns, premiering Christmas Day. His additional screen projects in the pipeline include collaborating with Alan Menken on Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid and executive producing and contributing music to Showtime’s Kingkiller Chronicle.
