Grammy Award winner Jason Mraz takes his first Broadway bow November 3 as he steps into Waitress.

The singer-songwriter takes on the role of Dr. Pomatter, the new-to-town gynecologist who offers local diner employee and baker Jenna Hunterson (currently played by Betsy Wolfe) an escape from her abusive marriage.

He succeeds original cast member Drew Gehling, who recently stepped in for a return engagement. Mraz is set to play a ten-week limited engagement.

This is not Mraz’s first foray into Bareilles’ score; he appeared as a guest artist on the composer’s 2015 album What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress. Both tracks he appears on, “Bad Idea” and “You Matter to Me,” are performed in the show by Dr. Pomatter and Jenna.

Mraz won two Grammy Awards in 2010: one for his single “Make It Mine” and another for “Lucky” (a collaboration with Colbie Caillat). He earned two nods the year before for his hit “I’m Yours,” which held the record for the most time spent on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart at 76 weeks. His latest album, Yes!, was released in 2014.

Also beginning a limited stint in the musical November 3 is David Josefsberg (An Act of God, Honeymoon in Vegas), who fills in for Christopher Fitzgerald in the role of Ogie through November 19.

Waitress continues to play the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

In addition to Wolfe, Mraz, and Josefsberg, the current cast features Tony nominee Will Swenson as Earl, Eric Anderson as Cal, Maia Nkenge Wilson as Becky, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, and John Cullum as Joe.
