Performances begin August 31 on Broadway for the world premiere of Bernhardt/Hamlet, a new comedy-drama about Sarah Bernhardt by Pulitzer finalist Theresa Rebeck. The Roundabout Theatre Company production stars Golden Globe, Tony, and Olivier Award winner Janet McTeer as the legendary Bernhardt, a trailblazing early 20th century French actor renowned for her presence both onstage and off.

Set against a lavish, late 19th century production of Hamlet starring Bernhardt in her make-or-break role, Rebeck’s new play paints a portrait of a legend as well as what it means to make theatre.
Bernhardt/Hamlet, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, is playing in the American Airlines Theatre, where the production will officially open September 25 and is scheduled to run through November 11.
The cast also features Dylan Baker as Constant Coquelin and Jason Butler Harner as Edmond Rostand, along with Matthew Saldivar as Alphonse Mucha, Nick Westrate as Maurice, Paxton Whitehead as Louis, Ito Aghayere as Rosamond, Brittany Bradford as Lysette, Aaron Costa Ganis as Raoul, and Triney Sandoval as Francois.
The creative team includes Beowulf Boritt (set design), Toni-Leslie James (costume design), Bradley King (lighting design), and Fitz Patton (original music and sound design).
