Manhattan Theatre Club held its 2019 Spring Gala on May 13. The gala honored advertising pioneer Nancy Coyne, whose agency Serino Coyne revolutionized Broadway advertising and has been responsible for the instantly recognizable campaigns behind shows like The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Wicked, and many more.
"MTC is thrilled to honor Nancy Coyne, an advertising industry pioneer and innovator whose agency Serino Coyne changed the way Broadway advertised itself," MTC noted. "She remains a steadfast mentor to women, a tireless advocate for the arts, and a beloved friend of the theater."
The gala also featured performances from Ain’t Too Proud, Be More Chill, Beetlejuice, The Cher Show, Choir Boy, Hadestown, King Kong, Pretty Woman and Tootsie.
Audible Theater will co-produce two premieres performing in rep, with a cast boasting Jackman, Ella Beatty, Liev Schreiber, Maggie Siff, and Justice Smith.
The new institution will honor multiple honorees, with separate dimmings reserved for those a committee designates as having had a significant and lasting impact on Broadway.
As the National Endowment for the Arts restricts funding for organizations that fund DEI programs, the theatres reaffirm their commitment to diversity while the ACLU files a lawsuit.
