Felciano — who played Tobias, as well as the violin, clarinet and keyboard, in the recent revival of Sweeney Todd — joins two-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara (as Dot) in the limited engagement, which will officially open at UCLA's Freud Playhouse Jan. 31. Jason Alexander directs the production, which features musical direction by Gerald Sternbach and runs through Feb. 11.
Nancy Dussault, the veteran actress who received Tony nominations for her performances in Bajour and Do Re Mi, portrays the Old Lady. The cast also features Katy Blake, Elizabeth Brackenbury, Matthew Patrick Davis, Jacqueline Emerson, Nancy Hess, Sarah Knowlton, Frank Kopyc, Kristofer McNeeley, Gregory North, Brent Schindele, Sean Smith, Katherine Von Till and Sam Zeller.
Manoel Felciano has been seen on Broadway in Sweeney Todd, Brooklyn, Jesus Christ Superstar and Cabaret as well as in the national tours of Saturday Night Fever and Whistle Down the Wind. His Off-Broadway credits include Shockheaded Peter and Much Ado About Nothing. Felciano received a 2006 Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.
Kelli O'Hara was recently on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of The Pajama Game, earning a Tony nomination for her performance as Babe. She was also Tony-nominated for her work as Clara in The Light in the Piazza. O'Hara's other Broadway credits include Jekyll & Hyde, Follies, Sweet Smell of Success and Dracula, the Musical.
Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George originally opened at Broadway's Booth Theatre on May 2, 1984, where it ran for 540 performances. Starring Mandy Patinkin as George and Bernadette Peters as Dot, the premiere Broadway company also included Barbara Bryne as the Old Lady, Brent Spiner as Franz, Charles Kimbrough as Jules and Dana Ivey as Yvonne. Sondheim's score — which was nominated for a Tony Award — features such titles as "Finishing the Hat," "Putting It Together," "Children and Art," "Move On" and "Beautiful." Sunday in the Park received ten Tony Award nominations, winning two — Scenic Designer (Tony Straiges) and Lighting Designer (Richard Nelson). It was also awarded a Pulitzer Prize. An acclaimed London production of Sunday in the Park with George that originated at The Menier Chocolate Factory may arrive on Broadway this season.
