As Hamilton continues to play Broadway, Chicago, Los Angeles (as part of the national tour), and a London bow on the horizon, the original Broadway cast recording maintains its presence on the Billboard 200 albums charts.
The latest chart (September 9) marks the 100th consecutive week the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical has made an appearance. Additionally, the latest week of sales tracking brought the complete cast recording up to 1.285 million total sales, surpassing Rent’s 1.284 million.
This makes the Grammy-winning album the sixth-highest-selling cast recording in Nielsen Music history. According to Billboard, it trails behind the Phantom of the Opera’s London cast recording highlights edition, Wicked, Mamma Mia!, Les Misérables, and Jersey Boys.
In March, Hamilton reached Triple Platinum status, surpassing three million sale units (album or single).
The Hamilton cast recording is available on Amazon, iTunes, and Apple Music.
Two musicals have surpassed 100,000 sales in 2017; joining Hamilton (297,000) is Dear Evan Hansen, coming in at 116,000. The last time two musicals reached six figures was in 2011, with the cast albums for The Book of Mormon and Wicked. To purchase Hamilton tickets, click here.
