Lincoln Center Theater's LCT3 celebrates the official opening of its newest production: Grace McLean's new musical In the Green, directed by Lee Sunday Evans, June 27. The world premiere marks the professional writing debut of McLean, an actor, singer, songwriter, previously seen on Broadway in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.
In the Green details the origin story of one of Medieval history's most powerful and creative women: Hildegard von Bingen. Before she became a healer, a composer, an exorcist, and finally a saint, she was a little girl locked in a cell with her mentor, Jutta.
The role of Jutta is played by McLean, who uses looping technology to create her own accompaniments throughout the show (there is also a four-person band). The cast is completed by Rachael Duddy, Ashley Pérez Flanagan, and Hannah Whitney, who all play Hildegard, as well as Mia Pak.
In the Green features sets by Kristen Robinson, costumes by Oana Botez, lighting by Barbara Samuels, sound by Nicholas Pope, and orchestrations by McLean and Kris Kukul, with music supervision by Kukul, puppet design by Amanda Villalobos, and casting by Henry Russell Bergstein.
