Stephen Beresford’s stage adaption of Fanny & Alexander, Ingmar Bergman’s classic film will begin performances at the Old Vic in London February 21 ahead of an official opening March 1.
Adapted for the stage by Beresford and Old Vic’s associate director Max Webster, Fanny and Alexander tells the story of two siblings whose world is turned upside down when their widowed mother remarries the iron-willed local bishop in 1900s Sweden.

Fanny and Alexander features a cast made up of Olivier winner Penelope Wilton, Thomas Arnold, Lolita Chakrabarti, Kevin Doyle, Karina Fernandez, Annie Firbank, Matt Gavan, Tim Lewis, Gary MacKay, Gloria Obianyo, Vivian Oparah, Michael Pennington, Hannah James Scott, Jonathan Slinger, Catherine Walker, and Sargon Yelda.
The production will have set design by Tom Pye, costume design by Laura Hopkins, music compositions by Alex Baranowski, lighting design by Mark Henderson, sound design by Tom Gibbons, casting by Jessica Ronane CDG, movement direction by Toby Sedgwick, illusions by Ben Hart, and assistant direction by Tatty Hennessey.
